The International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church

Today (still Sunday, the 12th, here) is the International DOP for the Persecuted Church. Our pastor talked about this in both the morning and evening services. Just thinking of what other Christians have to go through to do the things we often take for granted here, like go to Church without fearing for our lives … !

To my Brothers and Sisters in other parts of the world:

I think about and pray for you almost every single day. May our Creator encourage you and give you what you need to endure everything you go through.

God bless you!

I think one of the *best* things about using Sonlight as a homeschooling curriculum is that they really have a heart for the church worldwide, and people (especially Christians) in other cultures who don’t have it as good as we do in the U.S. We are almost done with “Window on the World” and I feel a real sense of satisfaction every time we read about a new people group or country that I would not have heard about, otherwise. We pray for each group every time, after learning about them. The tagline on the front of the book says, “When we pray, God works.”

It’s so worthwhile to pray for the persecuted Church, for missionaries in unfriendly cultures, for Christians who are a minority among their countrymen, for governments and leaders…

I will never forget, the day after we prayed for Colombia there was a news report that a major drug kingpin had been apprehended, and his whole cartel dismantled. Upon hearing the news, my middle son gasped, “When we pray God really DOES work!!”

Yes, He sure does! That is very cool! :-)

Thanks for mentioning Window on the World. I haven’t checked that out until today and it sounds interesting. We really like learning about different places and the people who live there.
