My son has my math brain. He also has my difficulty with concentration. Those two are a combination straight from the pit of hell. I have worked with him for two solid weeks to try to help him get a leg up on this math annoyance.
My hatred of math has been renewed.
On the bright side, God has blessed this child abundantly with common sense. I thought common sense (i.e. critical thinking) and math abilities went together. Not in this kid’s case, apparently.

When we homeschooled our oldest he would finally get a concept and work 50 problems all on his own…then he’d sleep…the next morning he would look at the same concept and act as if he had never seen it in his life. It was quite frustrating for the both of us! He still has problems with math…thankfully he has one more math class for his degree and then he is done with math forever…or so he says.
Good for him!! I bet he’s excited about that!

Here’s hoping that your Wednesday is full of interesting birds in your yard and in front of your camera, hugs, Robin
Math is not friendly. I applaud those with the skills to master the beast…but for those of us who can’t we have mathematical angels who show up in our greatest numerical need and rescue us. These angels have names like mom, mate, friend, and co-worker.
Turned out I didn’t need numbers…just words and honey I have tons of those, So do your best to get the basics in him while he’s young and then take a deep breath he’ll probably grow up to be President and I’ve heard they can afford their own mathematicians.
I love your fowl photo’s…I’m a birder and like you I am enthralled with their wing-span and flight.
Thanks, Robin! I think the “in front of your camera” is the key here.
Thanks for the encouragement, Patsy.
I have to keep reminding myself that God has a plan for this precious kid o’mine. I’m glad you like the photos. Aren’t birds amazing? It’s like they’re a product of a Creator or something.
My oldest, now a computer guy with a degree and everything, used to score as follows on the math part of standardized tests:
Math Concepts: 92 percentile
Math Concepts: 17 percentile
He knew what they were asking but got bogged down by little mistakes when working the problem. I figured if he knew what the goal was, what the point was, he could always just buy a calculator.
Wise words from Miss Clairmont. Will try to apply that wisdom today as we are wrapping up tenth grade ancient history and I haven’t taught my youngest about the Greek and Roman myths.
Love,
Julie
